Chairs

A house that does not have one comfy chair in it is soulless.

A Psalm of Life

I read this poem today by Longfellow and it was very beautiful, so I decided to share.

Tell me not in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou are, to dust thou returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each tomorrow
Find us farther than today.

Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
And our hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.

In the world's broad field of battle,
In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
Be a hero in the strife!

Trust no Future, howe'er pleasant!
Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act, - act in the living Present!
Heart within, and God o'erhead!

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sand of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o'er life's solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us then be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait.

{Purpose}

I want to more clearly define my purpose for this blog and even what the name means.
Farrago means a hotchpotch or mixture, esp. a ridiculous or unbelievable one: eg. a farrago of patriotic nonsense. Or a motley assortment of things.

I feel like this not only perfectly describes my background, personality and personal preferences (music, dress, reading etc.) but also my artistic interests and endeavors. I have many interests and passions and instead of trying to whittle away at them and until I come up with one central core, I desire to accept my multi-faceted ways and enjoy whatever comes along.

I was recently in Baltimore and enjoyed capturing
some of the beauty in that city.

First Things

This is my first attempt to switch over to a blog host with better aesthetic.
We'll see how this works out. I will still keep my xanga for family and fun posts, but for this I want to maintain semi-professional content and appearance.

On this blog I will attempt to share my artwork and current thoughts about anything related to art.

Thank you.
